Demography of Italy

Italy's population has almost doubled within the last twentieth century. Due to internal migration the population growth has been uneven. In Italy there where high fertility rates and high birth rates which lasted though out the 1970's when they started to decline.

The population as of 2014 is 61,680,122 as of July 2014 according to the CIA world fact book.

Italy has now an all time low of total fertility which is 1.8 children per woman. All these significant changes has also lead to an increase in population aging. 1 in 5 people in Italy will live to be 65 years and older now According to Eurostat.
